What the Skills Pass requires
The Tourism Skills Pass process page describes two phases after the Pre-Departure Course. Check the Skills Pass FAQ for excluded roles and for people who already hold a permit:
- Phase 1: online assessments (42 days). Two compulsory courses (Basic Customer Care and Basic Maltese Tourism Product) and an assessment for your occupation. You can do this from Bangladesh before you travel.
- Phase 2: interview. The process page describes a video conference at VFS or ITS. The Skills Pass obtaining page describes attending in person at VFS. Follow your booking instructions.
- Certificate. Issued to candidates who pass. The Skills Pass FAQ says Blockcerts. The obtaining page says Hyland. They name different delivery systems, so follow what Skills Pass tells you.
Completing the process from Bangladesh
Phase 1 is online. For the interview, the pages differ: video at VFS or ITS, or in person at VFS. Follow your booking instructions.
Allow time for the certificate. The Skills Pass FAQ says certificates are issued weekly. The Tourism Skills Pass User Guidelines require employer checks before the Single Permit application.
Interview location: the process page sends candidates who need a visa to their nearest VFS centre, and visa-exempt candidates to ITS Malta. Confirm the available locations on the official portal before you arrange travel.
Covered occupations
The Tourism Skills Pass process page lists Luggage Porter, Receptionist, Bar Waiter, Commis Chef, Commis de Rang and “Other”. It directs applicants with other occupations to contact Skills Pass. The Skills Pass FAQ separately lists role exclusions; absence from the five names does not establish exclusion.

Is the Skills Pass required for Bangladeshi workers specifically?
The Tourism Skills Pass User Guidelines target non-EU/EEA/EFTA nationals coming to work in tourism and hospitality. The Skills Pass FAQ lists role exclusions and a temporary exemption for valid Maltese work-permit holders. Bangladeshi nationality alone does not settle your route.
My employer says they will arrange everything — do I still need to register myself?
The Skills Pass How to Register page describes applicants creating accounts; it does not describe employer registration on their behalf. Candidates complete the assessments and required interview. Our advice: clarify your employer's assistance and use only the official portal for registration, sign-in and payment.
What happens if I fail a Phase 1 assessment?
The Tourism Skills Pass process page gives one free resit, €100 subsequent resits and a one-month lockdown after failure of the second resit.
