How long does the Malta Skills Pass take?
You have 42 days to finish Phase 1 online. The total time is longer, because you also wait for an interview slot and then for your certificate. Start early and follow your booking confirmation.

Phase 1: up to 42 days online
You get 42 days to finish Phase 1. That is a limit, not a minimum study time. No official page says when the 42 days start. The online work is:
- Basic Customer Care: course and assessment
- Basic Maltese Tourism Product: course and assessment
- Your occupation: choose it and pass its assessment
A 14-day extension costs €50. Finish early, and confirm the deadline shown on your account. The tourism process page puts this stage after you pass the Pre-Departure Course.
Booking the Phase 2 interview
You book after Phase 1 Confirmation. The assessor confirms your slot within a week. That is not a promise of an interview within a week. The tourism page describes a 30-minute online interview on English and your occupation.
Other official pages disagree on format. For Pre-Departure, Identità and Home Affairs describe a 20-minute live online interview at ITS Malta or an authorised Global Assessment Centre. The Skills Pass FAQ describes a 30-minute interview in person at a VFS centre. Follow your booking email, and ask Skills Pass if it is unclear.
From Phase 2 to your certificate
The Skills Pass FAQ says certificates are issued digitally every week through Blockcerts. Another official page names Hyland, and the tourism certification page mentions ITS certificate emails. None gives a delivery date for you. Allow extra time after your interview. If a permit deadline is close, ask Skills Pass for its current schedule.

Identità’s 28 February 2026 notice says tourism and hospitality applicants in scope need two separate certificates. It also lists Pre-Departure exemptions, and the Skills Pass FAQs list some roles that are excluded. Check which apply to you before you pay.
