How do I register for the Malta Skill Pass?
Register on the official Skills Pass portal. The “Obtaining the Skills Pass” page lists these steps: create an account, buy the Pre-Departure Course, choose the tourism and hospitality sector, take the online assessments, and book Phase 2.
To check your registration, use your official account or contact Skills Pass support. This guide cannot see account or application records.
Where registration happens
Registration, online learning and booking all happen on the official Skills Pass portal. The official page says the interview is at VFS or ITS Malta. Follow its instructions. Malta Skills Pass cannot register you, take payment or issue certificates.
The official steps, with the costs
The sector page gives a numbered sequence. Two steps state a cost:
- “Step 2: Purchase the Pre-Departure Course (€245)”. This is the Pre-Departure Course covered across the Malta Guide Network. Identità’s 28 February 2026 notice sets out exemptions, so check whether you need it before you buy.
- “Step 4: Select Tourism and Hospitality Sector (€230)”. This is where you enter the tourism and hospitality track.
For account setup, the “How to Register” page has four stages:
- Choose your applicant category. It decides which documents you upload.
- Enter your details. Personal, passport and contact information. Your email is the system’s unique identifier and cannot be changed after registration.
- Upload the documents. A passport copy and category-specific papers. Applicants under 18 may be asked for extra forms.
- Finish setup and activate within 24 hours. Create a secure password, accept the terms and follow the activation instructions. Accounts not activated within 24 hours are deleted and you must start again.
Check the cost before you pay
The page lists €230 including a €5 Phase 2 booking fee. Its Step 5 says no additional payment is needed to book Phase 2. Another paragraph says you book Phase 2 and pay €250. The general Skills Pass FAQ says €225 for the tourism fee. Check the amount on your payment screen. See the cost breakdown.
Before you start
- Do you need the Pre-Departure Course? Identità’s 28 February 2026 notice covers new and still-abroad applicants. It exempts current or previous Single Permit holders (subject to its first-time reapplication and Still Abroad exceptions) and third-country nationals who have lived in Malta for eight years or more.
- Is your job excluded? Check the excluded roles before you buy the sector step. The Skills Pass FAQ says its list is not complete. Ask Skills Pass about jobs not listed.
- Are your documents valid? Expired documents lead to permanent account suspension. False information or documents lead to suspension without a refund.
- Do you have time and budget? Do not rush the steps that cost money.

The Obtaining the Skills Pass page puts both parts in one portal sequence. The Skills Pass FAQ and the tourism process page say the tourism part comes after you finish Pre-Departure. Check Identità's 28 February 2026 notice for the requirement and the exemptions before you buy.
Will I pay more than once while registering?
Possibly. The page lists purchases at the Pre-Departure step and the sector step. Step 5 says Phase 2 booking needs no extra payment, but another paragraph says you book Phase 2 and pay €250.
