The Skills Pass FAQ excludes kitchen porters but does not name kitchen helpers. This guide explains how to confirm your actual kitchen duties.
Overview
It depends on your duties. Kitchen porters do not need the Skills Pass: the official FAQ excludes "Cleaners & Kitchen Porters". Kitchen helpers and kitchen assistants are not named. The kitchen option on the occupation list is "Commis Chef" (Kitchen Staff). Ask Skills Pass which applies to you.
Check before you register or pay
If your employer says you need the Skills Pass, email info@skillspass.org.mt with your job description and ask whether your job and workplace are covered.
Common questions
Is a kitchen helper the same as a Commis Chef for Skills Pass?
Not necessarily. Commis Chef is the kitchen option on the occupation list. Kitchen Porters are excluded. Kitchen Helper is not linked to either. Give Skills Pass your real duties and ask which applies.
What occupation should I select in Phase 1 if my job is kitchen helper?
Kitchen Helper is not on the list. Before you choose, email info@skillspass.org.mt with your duties and ask which option applies, or whether the kitchen porter exclusion covers you.
Do I need the Skills Pass if I only do basic kitchen tasks?
Kitchen porters are excluded, but basic kitchen tasks are not defined. Not being on the occupation list does not mean you are excluded, because there is an "Other" option. Ask Skills Pass about your real duties before you register.
If my kitchen role is not covered, is there anything else I need?
Possibly the Pre-Departure Course. It is a separate requirement from the Skills Pass. A first-time Single Permit applicant may still need it, even if their job does not need the Skills Pass. See maltapredeparturecourse.org.
